We presented the results from the Corpus of ISL at a large international conference in Ethiopia. The conference, known as TISLR – short for Theoretical Issues in Sign Language Research – happens once every 3 years. It is one of the biggest events related to sign language research. There were over 400 people, deaf and hearing.
Sara presented her PhD research. She described what she found about language attitudes from looking at the interviews in the Corpus. Everyone was so interested! On our day off, we went to the market in Ethiopia with a local deaf tour guide. It was exciting to share the findings from the Corpus with deaf and hearing researchers around the world.
